Rembrandt
Nigel Boonham FRSS
At a family workshop at the National Gallery, with my then 4-year old daughter Athena, we were
set a task to use our sketch of Rembrandt’s last self-portrait to model a head. I got absorbed
sculpting this small portrait, grappling with the horrible fibrous clay we were given, whilst she
created a colourful bust of Mrs. Rembrandt.
Wishing not to draw attention, I kept myself in a corner but other families soon started whispering in disbelief to each other, “Look at his, it looks like Rembrandt!”.
