Robert Hunt

About

Robert Hunt has been a professional sculptor for over thirty years. His passion lies in figurative work and in particular human portraits. While much of his work is 'in the round' he has developed a special expertise in bas relief and has undertaken a number of commissions for the Royal Mint. It was his design for the new 'Britannia' that was chosen by the Mint in 2013 for its fine gold and silver collection, and his portrait of Her Majesty the Queen was one of the final three chosen for the Mint's new national coinage in 2015. In 2004, 2013 and 2015 he received the Olin-Stones Award for best relief sculpture at the Society of Portrait Sculptors' annual exhibition in London.

His public work includes a bust of Professor Jacob Bronowski commissioned for Jesus College, Cambridge in 2011 and his statue of 'St Francis and the Hoopoe' was bought by The University of Winchester in 2014. In 2015 he was commissioned to create a commemorative relief portrait of the English nurse, Edith Cavell, for the University of East Anglia to mark the 100th anniversary of her execution by the Germans in Brussels.

Although the majority of his commissions are generated in the United Kingdom, his work is included in private collections in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Robert is a Council member, Honorary Secretary and Trustee of The Society of Portrait Sculptors. He organises and is a regular exhibitor with the Society's annual open exhibition in London which is considered an international flagship for portrait sculpture and which attracts would-be exhibitors from all over the world. In 2010 he helped organise and curate a major exhibition of the Society's work in Winchester Cathedral which received much praise from the many visitors who came to the City that summer. He is also a member of the Armed Forces Art Society, winning the AFAS sculpture prize at its annual exhibition in the Mall Galleries in 2013, the Surrey Sculpture Society and the Hampshire Sculpture Trust.
