A monument to George Boole 1815-1864, the famous mathematician and native of Lincoln,

known as the ‘grandfather of information technology’ will be erected outside Lincoln train station

and transport hub later in 2020.  Boole is shown as an educationalist with two schoolchildren, a

boy and a girl. This half-size maquette of the school boy writing on a slate, was posed for by the

sculptor’s 10 year-old son Tadeusz. Ironically perhaps, bearing in mind later technological

developments using ‘Boolean logic’, Tadeusz avoided boredom while modelling, by looking at his

tablet, which could be described as a 21st century development of the Victorian schoolboy’s slate.
