About
Sara’s sculptural journey spans continents, traditions, and decades of dedicated practice. Born in Wales and raised in Berkshire, she began her training through apprenticeships with renowned figurative sculptors John Doubleday, Lorne McKean, and Edwin Russel, before studying under Allan Sly at the City and Guilds of London Art School. Her early promise was recognised with the RA Aeneas Award, leading to a drawing scholarship in Rome and Florence, and further accolades including the Tussauds Prize and the RI Prize upon graduation.
She went on to complete her Master’s in New York, supported by the New York Academy of Art and the National Sculpture Society. Remaining in the city, she worked from a studio in Harlem creating figures for Warner Brothers, and later managed a Soho-based studio for sculptor Rhonda Roland Shearer. Now based in Northamptonshire, Sara continues to produce public sculptures and private commissions. A full member of the Society of Women Artists since 2023, she exhibits regularly in London and teaches at venues including Raw Umber Studios in Stroud, Yardley Arts, and her own studio in Weedon Bec.
At the heart of Sara’s practice lies a deep engagement with the human condition. Her work explores our shared vulnerabilities—frailty, imperfection, and tragedy—while also celebrating the transcendent beauty of nature. Drawing on myth and history, she seeks to illuminate the complexity of what it means to be human. Themes of connection and truth run throughout: how we relate to one another, how we situate ourselves in history, and how the sculptor-model relationship can spark a unique creative energy. Beneath it all is a quiet philosophical enquiry—an ongoing search for meaning, presence, and authenticity.
