About

I grew up in Exeter and was educated at Wellington School before studying at Wimbledon School of Art, where I studied under the tutelage of Alan Sly. It was here that I developed the discipline of sculpting from life.

I was also lucky enough to work for the sculptor Nicholas Dimbleby and Alistair Bowtell. Both of which allowed me to assist on some of the public sculptures.

I spent 24 years at Madame Tussauds, where I specialised in portrait sculpture and developed a deep understanding of likeness. During this time, I created portraits of prominent international figures and had the opportunity to meet and speak with individuals including Princess Amalia of the Netherlands, Klaus Wowereit, then Mayor of Berlin, Donald Tsang, then Chief Executive of Hong Kong, and Jan Peter Balkenende, then Prime Minister of the Netherlands. I also sculpted, from research, Kamala Harris and Pope Benedict XVI.

I sculpted the distinguished artists Mihály Munkácsy and Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and produced more than 100 heads for the Madame Tussauds collection.

The experience of repeatedly studying faces, expressions and character refined my ability to capture not simply physical resemblance, but something of an individual’s presence and identity. I am fascinated by the way sculpture can preserve a person at a particular moment in time, transforming memory and observation into something tangible and enduring.

Since leaving Madame Tussauds, I have returned to my independent practice, concentrating on portrait commissions from my studio in Kingston.

I am currently creating a portrait of the explorer Florence Baker for the Royal Geographical Society, alongside a number of private commissions.

I have received two prizes from the Society of Portrait Sculptors.
